Install SuperPenguin Desktop

SuperPenguin Desktop connects an engineer's local AI coding activity to SuperPenguin. It supports Cursor, Claude Code, and Codex activity on macOS.

Send the app to engineers

A workspace owner can email the app from the Onboard your team step on AI Coding or PR Costs:

Review the Invited, Accepted, and App connected counts.
Select Send app to email every accepted teammate who has not connected Desktop.

The complete roster and individual send actions remain available in Settings:

Open Settings.
Select AI Coding.
Find Desktop reporting.
Review the installed and not-installed members.
Send to one engineer, or select Send to all not installed.

SuperPenguin skips members who already have an active Desktop installation. Sending the app is a separate action from inviting someone to the workspace, so the engineer should accept the workspace invitation first.

Each engineer:

Opens the installation email or the AI Coding setup page.
Downloads the Apple Silicon or Intel DMG for their Mac.
Opens the DMG and drags SuperPenguin Desktop to Applications.
Opens SuperPenguin Desktop.
Selects Sign in and completes approval in the browser.
Chooses the correct company workspace if prompted.

SuperPenguin Desktop requires macOS 12 or later. After the first sign-in, supported AI coding activity uploads in the background. No skill file or manual collector command is required.

Connect your Claude account and live limits

For the current Claude integration, sign in through Claude Code CLI on the same Mac using the account whose live limits you want to see. Signing in only to the Claude Mac app's Code tab may not make that account available to SuperPenguin. You can continue working in the Claude Mac app after completing CLI sign-in.

If the CLI is signed into another account, decide which account you want to use before switching. This changes the CLI login as well.
In Terminal, run claude auth login --email [email protected], replacing the email with your Claude account.
Complete Claude's browser authorization, including the code prompt if shown. Wait for the terminal to confirm success. Opening or signing into the browser alone does not complete CLI authorization.
Run claude auth status and confirm it reports loggedIn: true with the expected email.
Open SuperPenguin Desktop Settings → Connected accounts. If the email differs from your SuperPenguin email, select Link account beside Claude Code.
Select Refresh under Usage limits. Limits depend on the account and the data Claude makes available; linking an email alone does not grant access to them.

Local session and token totals are separate from live account limits. Existing session files can remain readable after logout. These setup steps do not assign historical sessions to a newly linked account.

Keeping accounts after switching logins

Desktop 0.14.1, when connected to a server with account persistence enabled, saves recognized accounts whose email matches your SuperPenguin email. Accounts with another email still require Link account. Saved accounts remain listed after switching away, as Linked · Not detected on this Mac, unless you unlink them.

If a detected same-email account has not been saved, Desktop 0.14.1 offers Save account. Select it before switching logins to keep the account listed, including when the server does not yet support automatic saving. Earlier versions may show Linked automatically · Same email as SuperPenguin instead; that temporary state can disappear when you switch logins without deleting activity. Previously disappeared accounts are not restored automatically; they need to be detected again. Explicitly unlinked accounts require Link account to reconnect.

A saved link does not keep that account signed into Claude or preserve access to its live limits. CLI sign-in is still needed for the Claude setup described above.

What engineers and owners see

An ordinary member sees their own AI Coding information.
A workspace owner sees organization-wide aggregate information.
A member with Viewer or Policy administrator access also sees organization-wide AI Coding information.

The team installation roster appears in Settings → AI Coding → Desktop reporting. Personal live agent spend is available across plans, while team dashboard seats and PR Cost Attribution depend on the workspace plan.

AI coding analytics includes 1 person on Free, 3 Mac app users on Growth, 5 on Pro, and unlimited on Enterprise. A person using multiple Macs counts once. The dashboard includes the earliest connected active workspace members up to the plan limit. Cursor, Anthropic, and OpenAI billing connections are not required for Claude Code or Codex Desktop reporting.
